In 1997, Littleton High School applied to become an International Baccalaureate Diploma Program School. After approval, the first class of 14 students graduated in 1999 and had a 100% passing rate: all students earned their IB diploma. Since then, the program has flourished. In May 2009, 45 seniors graduated from the program, with 41 of them earning their diplomas. Over the program’s 11-year history, 95% of the diploma candidates have earned their diploma. In addition, more than 35% of Littleton High School’s teachers have attended a four-day intensive training on the curriculum and assessments.
Our curriculum offerings also have grown. For World Langauges, we offer French, Spanish and Japanese; for Science we offer Biology HL and Chemistry SL; for mathematics, we offer Math HL and two courses of Math SL; for the Arts we offer HL and SL Theater, Visual Arts (2D and 3D), Music, and we also offer Film, Psychology, Philosophy and Design Technology as Sixth Subjects. All students take the HL Language A1 (Literature) course and HL History. Students take six courses over the course of their junior and senior years, and complete the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge course, and 150 hours of Creativity, Action, and Service.
